Following the tradition established in 2022, I am presenting here an overview of some interesting new open-source typefaces that were published on the Google Fonts platform in 2023. I am listing them in the chronologic order of publication.
After Part 1 (February–March) and Part 2 (April to August), we now reach the third part that goes from September to December 2023.
Inclusive Sans
Inclusive Sans, by Olivia King, is a text font designed for accessibility and readability. It is inspired by the friendly personality of contemporary neo-grotesques while incorporating key features to make it highly legible in all uses. Designed by Olivia King. New fonts released (or updated) in September: AR One Sans, Gabarito, Onest, Pixelify Sans, Young Serif, Inclusive Sans, Mooli.
AR One Sans



AR One Sans, designed by Niteesh Yadav, is a font for Augmented Reality (AR) environments and UIs with high-readability in busy backgrounds. It includes axes for Weight and also a special ‘AR Retinal Resolution’ axis.
Gabarito
Gabarito is a light-hearted geometric sans typeface with 6 weights ranging from Regular to Black originally designed for an online learning platform in Brazil.


Mooli
Mooli is a Sans Serif font designed for young readers, by Vernon Adams.


Onest
Onest is a hybrid of geometric and humanistic grotesques. It is suitable for reading long texts from the screens of any device and is recommended for apps and sites. A typeface created for Moldova.



Slackside

Slackside by @mksdsato is a Japanese handwritten style Kana font.
Wavefont and Linefont



Wavefont and Linefont by Dmitry Ivanov are non-text variable fonts to render data.
Young Serif
Young Serif by Bastien Sozeau, a heavy weight old style serif typeface, taking inspiration from Plantin Infant or ITC Italian Old Style.

Hedvig Letters
The Hedvig typeface family was created by Kanon Foundry (Malmö, Sweden), as a brand typeface for an insurance company.





Playpen Sans
Playpen Sans produced by TypeTogether is a casual handwriting font with 7 alternates for each character and an automatic shuffler that ensures the overall organic, spontaneous, and authentic feel of the style.
