Some screen captures from the awesome presentation given last Thursday, October 6th, by Megan and Rick Prelinger, at the exhibition space Live in your head, Geneva. The presentations and slides are licensed under CC-BY-NC.
Megan and Rick are running the Prelinger Archives (founded in 1983 in New York City), a collection of over 60,000 “ephemeral” (advertising, educational, industrial, and amateur) films. In 2004, they founded the Prelinger Library, which is “an appropriation-friendly, browsable collection of approximately 40,000 books, periodicals, printed ephemera and government documents” located in San Francisco.
Megan gave an inspiring description of the way the Prelinger Library is working as a living, experimental space for work and study. Rick talked about the significance of appropriation in our culture, in a presentation titled “Appropriation: est-ce tout fini? Un manifeste”.
The event is part of «Codex», an exhibition curated by Pierre Leguillon, with students from the option Bachelor Arts visuels « Appropriation ».
